What do we have?

This trap has hung in my families camp for as long as I can remember. It is comparable in size to a #4 long spring. What do we have? The chain in the photo is not the original chain. That's what we use to hang it from the wall.

Is there a name stamped ontop the spring near the spring eye?
Ive seen simular traps, some where sold as fish traps as I recall.
