Picked up some old traps - 08/08/15 08:08 PM

Came across some old traps when I helped my brother clean out his garage. They use to be his wife's fathers traps from years ago. She just wanted them gone so she gave them to me for all my help. There is 50 traps in all, most of them Newhouse and Blake & Lamb 1 1/2 LS. But there was some #2 Kangaroo jump traps and also two others I am not sure what they are. Just wondering if they are worth anything and if anybody knows what the mystery traps are.

The mystery traps

First mystery trap appears to be a triumph triple clutch jump trap, the second one I believe is a triumph easy set and the third I'm at a loss. I am just starting trap collecting so I may be off.

The first 2 traps have some collectors value, especially the one with the Triple clutches. Nit a lot of money but probably shouldn't use the triple clutch on the trap line.

The first mystery trap was made by Triumph Trap Company. Looks like a # 2 Never Break. If you look on the pan below the words COIL SPRING you should be able to see the words never break. Trap looks in really good condition, so I would say collector for sure.

There are 5 traps pictured. I thought only the last 3 were mystery traps.

I'm sticking with # 2 Never Break coil for the trap in pictures 3 and 4.

The last picture is a # 1 or # 1 1/2 jump, single under spring. Possibly a Blake & Lamb with a replaced chain.

Thank You for your response. After looking closer to the trap in pictures 3 and 4 I can see the words never break. I will probably keep the #2 Kangaroos traps and the #2 Never Break coils and try to sell the others. Thanks again for your help

The Newhouse traps are probably the most valueable in the group. Be sure to check them for stampings on the springs.

On any of the collector traps you are thinking about selling, do NOT clean them. It is ok to remove loose dirt and rust but the tight rust (patina) should be left on the trap. If you clean a collector trap to bare metal you will decrease the value.

50 traps is a nice haul for helping some one clean out a garage. Way to go!
