Mont; You're dragging me back to a past life here. And one when my eyes were a lot better too!
That appears to be a forged spring 'Dorset' rabbit trap.
What
Does
that stamp say, above the three X's? I can't visually make it out. And it's been so long that I can't even remember what it
might
say.
Either way, yes; It certainly looks like what I said. As such, it's a nice example of the old Gin Traps to have as an example in ye Collection.
That name could possibly tell us a bit more though.

Okay, Mont, I'll be perfectly honest with ye and say that that's a name I have Never, in most of a life time collecting such traps, come across.
Let me put some feelers out. I'll see what I can come up with.
For now though, I would say it's a nice trap. Nice example of its type. That name ~ be it maker or destined retailer ~ makes it
interesting
.
I know Australia is crazy for stamped stuff. UK is usually more focused on size and type. Either way, I'd consider that one to be a keeper.
Nice find!

Yep. Asked a mate of mine who'd still active and ridiculously knowledgeable about British traps.
He tells us: " Made by Pritchard's in Wednesfield. It is his trademark, TRAPS backwards. "
We never saw That one coming, did we, Mont?!

Circa 1920 - 1940, Pritchard was not a prolific trapmaker compared to some makers in that area
