Old trap with an odd dog set up - 06/13/15 08:27 PM

A friend of mine came up with a 1 1/2 size trap with cast chain and jaws.It has a dog that resembles a link of jack chain. The pan has a double notch. I know that pictures would be nice. Any ideas what it might be?

Someone told me that they think that it is a Duplex Trap. Does anyone have a picture of one or any info.

I think that it may be a trap that was patented by Thomas H Donlon of Cortland Trap Co. If it is the trap that I think it is.It can be set before you go trapping and put into your trap basket. When you are ready to set the trap at a set, you move the trigger from a safetly position to ready to fire directly to the pan.A R Harding Book Steel Traps page 37 has a picture of a Duplex. My guess is that only a handfull were made. Not popular with trappers.Bruce

If this is the trap it was Patented March 7, 1899 # 0620753 A picture would really help on this one.

I would like to make a Display of Thomas H Donlons trap Patents for the NTA 2015. I will be in Tailgters Section Bruce. He had Patents from 1884 to 1919.Most Famous was The Dogless Double jaw Cortland Trap 1888 -1892.One trap from 1899 will fire if the pan goes up or down.Bruce
