2 1/2 Newhouse - right & left handed?

I ran into a guy that has two 2 1/2 newhouses. He says they are rigt and left handed, I assume the cross plate was just put on different, one dog on the left, one on the right . Any added value for these? I'm supposed to go look at these traps late this week, anything in particular I should look for? Thanks, Richard
