I've looked at a bunch of Standish traps and they both had a two piece base and cross. Could be yours is a very early one but without a stamp or makers mark it would be tough to prove.

Some were marked, most were not. This tap is a PEAVEY. There were several blacksmiths with that last name, certainly related ,if not brothers.The trap comes from the state of maine.
