gear traps

Anyone got a Gear trap? Or know how they worked? I've only seen them in the sprung position,and NOT that good of pictures of them.

heres a few of mine the smallest one has 5 1/2 inch jaws. I have never seen another this small. Probably for rats,I also have a larger one in my fur shed. I have never set them so not sure how you go about doing that.

Could it be that you simply pry the jaws open with your hands to set? Maybe that's why they quit selling them. Scarey!
