I am not a collector, but may pick up a few wallhangers, so was wondering if this book would be a good reference for prices. Thanks, Tom

I'm not familiar with that book. Who is the author?

Tom Parr and Blaise Andreski have a trap collectors price guide out for sale. I think the price is $46.00, shipping included.

It is an excellent reference book. Not only does it have prices but it has some pictures and lots of useful info. It also includes bear traps - old and reproductions. As well as reprints of Tom Parr's trap collecting articles from FFG.

If you are interested at all in old traps, it is well worth the money.

Wissmiss--where would you find this book?

I think the only place this book is available is from the authors.

Tom Parr
NATCA
PO box 94
Galloway. OH. 43119

That is the mailing address of the north American trap collectors group, of which Tom Parr is the president.

If he doesn't have copies of the book, he will send your request on to Blaise Andreski, the other author.

I think the book is $40.00 plus $6.00 for shipping. At least that is what I paid for mine a couple of years ago.

Tom is a pretty busy guy with his museum and all, plus this time of year he actually likes to do a bit of trapping. So please be patient if he doesn't get back to you right away.

It is new according to the listing on e-bay. I do not see an author. It is a pocket size book.

Stick with Toms book!!!!! I would stay away from anything to do with the other book or books they put out.

Ok. I found the listing on eBay. While it doesn't list an author, after skimming through the multiple pages of BS about the book that is at the bottom of the listing, I have come to the conclusion that it is another price guide put out by Robert Vance and sold by Hurtzel trap company.

If that is true, then the only thing that is good about this Blue Book is that it will fit in your pocket. I'm not sure if I would invest 29.95 in it or not. ..........

Both wissmiss and snakecollector gave you the BEST advise on what to buy. Snakecolletor knows trap collecting VERY WELL and will give you nothing but great info. He is a very knowledgable collector with awesome traps.

To make a long story short, I bought " The Trap Collectors Guide" by Andreski and Parr on ebay. I then called Ed Hutzel. He was very kind, and we talked for about an hour and a half. He shared a lot of information and gave me some contacts with local collectors. At the end of our talk, he told me that he is sending me a copy of the "Blue Book Pocket Buyers Guide To Antique Traps" new for 2014 for free. [Thanks a lot, Ed] I guess I should have called Tom Parr before buying his book. haha. To any one who goes on ebay to look at this book, I think the description at the bottom offers some sound advice especially for beginners. Also if you want to look at some really cool traps, check out hutzeltraps.com

I received my Blue Book on Wednesday and have had a little time to look it over. It is not very impressive until you realize how much is jam packed into this little book. I say it is not very impressive when you first see it because it will fit your shirt pocket and you will hardly know it is there. I believe there are two thousand traps listed in a easy reading print size. No fluff or wasted space. One feature I really like is that when you look in the index for a certain trap maker, all of his traps will be there. You aren't referenced to look under another name on a different page. There are some other trapping collectables listed as well. It looks to me like it will be a great tool.

The Blue Book pocket edition is a very good book to have when you are at an auction or flea market.
