Belisle Seal Trap????

I bought an 18" X 18" Belisle "Seal" trap from someone recently. Guy bought it a few years back, and said they only made 300 total.

Anyone know this to be true? I paid him what he paid for it.....so HOPE I got a fair deal.

Curious if anyone has any history on this unit?

It is a BEAST of a trap...I can't budge the springs. I could see it killing a seal, or a bear!

Any info appreciated.......its cool!

Zags that trap would sure fill up a creek....no blocking required.

Was the $455 a good deal? What would one be worth?

I haven't been collecting all that long brydon. But, I have found out that I don't know what anything is worth lol! I thought the Dahlgren sure pelts were cheap. then I seen one go for over $200. Then a #1 Newhouse goes for $350. I know condition is everything, but don't know a thing about a seal trap.

The eBay post says only 30 were made...perhaps a misprint OR exaggerated selling point?

Was thinking about placing over the only glass window that goes into my trap collection room! LOL

I'm from Québec, Canada where this trap had been made at the beginning of 2000' by Mr. Edouard Bélisle himself, the founder of Bélisle Enterprises. A guy from Baie des Chaleurs in Gaspésie area, Québec, appointed Mr. Bélisle to make around 30 of these traps to get rid of the "loup marin" (seal)in his area. The inventor tried to have his trap patented in 2002 (see the link)but didn't obtain the certification (I can find it...). The ministry of Fisheries and Océans which manage the sea mammals, never approved that trap because of the difficulty to obtain a clean kill on a seal by the neck. So, the small bunch of trap where sold to few people and collectors from that period. You're a lucky guy to have one. I'm also looking to find one. Let me know if you change your mind and want to sell it!
