Hey brother, I'll Trade you a #3 cast pan Sargent with no chain for that #4 Nisbet, I'd even add a little cash too. Always like seeing your traps, I remember lusting over that #4 Nisbet just yesterday, that is a beauty.

Re: #4 NISBET - 01/09/16 03:28 PM

got to go see it not too long ago. I would have to say that trap is probably my favorite trap of all time. very awesome. I think it is still doin all right. Bruce has got the death grip on it.

Re: #4 NISBET - 01/09/16 05:47 PM

Bruce doesn't have a death grip on any of his traps, because he has 3 different metal detectors you have to pass through when you leave and also he has his 6'8" neighbor by the name of BUBBA frisk you before you get in your vehicle to leave, Bruce was talking about doing away with the BUBBA frisk, because.....
Oh, never mind!

Dustin, I knew you would never forget Bubba, the little gal that waited on us at the Café the day you came down when we went to grab a bite to eat. She still asks about you every time I am down there.

Re: #4 NISBET - 02/13/16 01:55 AM

Bruce,

Can you tell me what printing is on a Nisbit? From your pic I can only make out Nisbet and patent, does this trap usually have more info on it like the size number and origin etc?

Thanks, Todd

Re: #4 NISBET - 02/13/16 01:08 PM

Hi Todd,
There is no size number on the Nisbet's. On the stamp pans only Nisbet Patent is on the pan.

On the raised letter models the pans read PAT AUG 17 97.

The "Holy Grail" of No. 4's?

Re: #4 NISBET - 02/13/16 02:22 PM

Bruce, do you have any pictures of the raised pans you could post?

Thanks, Todd

Re: #4 NISBET - 02/13/16 03:04 PM

Todd, here are pictures of a Nisbit with the raised letter pan, the hole in the pan is common, most serious collectors believe it came from the factory that way, because most of the raised letter patent date pans have that one hole, also notice the raised lettered patent date on the side of the jaws, not all of the Nisbits have that, this one was the stamped lettered pan model. Not my traps, pictures were taken at the NTA convention in Owatonna, Minn. in 2012

Re: #4 NISBET - 02/17/16 01:03 AM

Can anyone tell me what size this single spring Nisbet is?

Re: #4 NISBET - 02/17/16 03:18 AM

Looks like a 1 & 1/2, but could be a #2 & 1/2. By the pictures it does not look big enough for it to be the #3 & 1/2 size, and a #1 has only three downward spikes on each side not four. is the ring and wedge on the end of the chain? Nisbet has its own heavy wedge on a lapped riveted ring. Also if you notice on the chain, the Nisbet chain has a rounded top on the link. Can you make out anything on the pan as far as a stamped Nisbet Patent?

Re: #4 NISBET - 03/13/16 01:33 PM

Newhouse, and Peck Stow & Wilcox 1897 era traps used these jaws some may even have hand forged springs. In 1925 Newhouse made them again.
