Is that one of the Herters reproduction traps?The dog and the pan do not look old style,and the patina seems inconsistent.The welding on the chain also looks modern.

Made in 1981 for Lewis Clark Traders in Idaho. Looks very similar to the Herters bear traps.

I think they were sold by several trapping supply places until the early 1990s.

Hey, I've got one of those! Different chain setup tho, and I got a setting clamp and a u shaped safety device for holding one spring down. Bought it in 1981, wanted a Newhouse but couldn't part with $500, so I bought this trap for $150. Of course, now I wish I bought the #6 Newhouse !

No, that is a replica of a #00 mountain man survival trap built by my father in his blacksmith shop in the late 70's. A friend and trap collector gave him the info and specs. I've never been able to find more information on these traps, did they really exist? Maybe I'll take some photos and inquire on here.
