(Editor's Note: This story has been corrected from the original, which
misstated the severity of the injury to Mondragon in the fourth
paragraph.)

A Vashon Island eco-saboteur who previously lost an arm cutting power
to Orcas Island is facing sex crime charges.

In charging documents filed Wednesday, King County prosecutors contend
Gabrial T. Mondragon attempted to solicit sex from a 13-year-old girl
outside a Vashon Island movie theater.

Now charged with a single count of indecent liberties, Mondragon, 28,
was sentenced to probation in 2008 after losing his right hand and
lower arm while attempting to cut a large electrical cable on Orcas
Island to protest the death of Luna -- an celebrated orca killed after
colliding with a tugboat propeller -- and deforestation.

In that 2008 case, Mondragon jolted himself after attempting to cut
through the substation cable with a power saw. He'd attempted to
protect himself from the 69,000-volt line, according to court
documents, by donning two pairs of dishwashing gloves.

This guy must be granted a Darwinian award for trying so hard to remove himself from the gene pool although he failed to complete the job and is only missing body parts............He sure is stupid.

Mondragon pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of destruction of
government property. About 4,000 Orcas Power and Light customers lost
electricity for about four hours.

The New Mexico native had arrived at Vashon Island several years
before after involving himself in environmental activities in several
states. Mondragon, according to court documents, spent more than a
year living in a redwood cedar tree, then moved to a Port Angeles
commune for some time.

On Aug. 26, 2009, prosecutors contend Mondragon approached a group of
girls -- two 12-year-olds and one 13-year-old -- he'd previously met
at events on Vashon Island.

The girls told police they were "creeped out" when Mondragon told one
of the girl's she was "hot" and attempted to walk away. As they did
so, Mondragon is alleged to have propositioned one of the girls,
asking if she would perform oral sex on him in an alley.

Investigators contend the girls walked into the theater to wait for
Mondragon to leave. The girl whom Mondragon is alleged to have
propositioned then told her mother of the incident.

"(The girl's mother) said she found out this was not an isolated
incident, and there have been several girls at McMurray Middle School
… that have either experienced or witnessed similar contacts with the
defendant," King County Sheriff's Detective Michael Gordon said in
court documents.

Gordon noted that another girl's mother told him Mondragon is a local
artist specializing in paintings of naked, dead girls.

"While it's not a crime to express one's self in art such as this,
considering his predilection with sexual activity, particularly with
young, underage girls, it raises concerns," the detective continued in
the March 24 affidavit.

Prosecutors have charged Mondragon with a single count of indecent
liberties. He has not been jailed in the case, but has been ordered
not to have contact with minors.

NOTE: The following is a backgrounder on Gabriel T. Mondragon,
formerly branded as an eco-saboteur and now accused of "communication
with a minor for immoral purposes", for which he was scheduled for
arraignment this Aug. 18. Links to all media sources are provided,
but not to primary sources such as court documents.

Originally from New Mexico, Mondragon has long been a resident of
Vashon Island, Washington. After moving to Vashon, he became involved
in environmental activities in several states, spent more than a year
living in a redwood cedar tree, and spent time living in a Port
Angeles commune.

On Mar. 10, 2006, a celebrated killer whale named Luna was killed in
an accident with a tugboat in nearby Orcas Island. (See "Luna the
orca killed by tugboat", Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Mar. 11, 2006.
http://www.seattlepi.com/local/262611_luna11.html)

Local First Nation residents were extremely unhappy about this, as
they had come to believe that Luna embodied the spirit of their
chief, who died just days before the orca showed up.

Two years later, on Mar. 15, 2008, Mondragon cut a high-voltage power
line inside a fenced Orcas Power and Light Cooperative substation,
losing his left arm and two toes in the process. (See "Man accused of
cutting power line pleads not guilty", Seattle Post-Intelligencer,
Apr. 29, 2008. http://www.seattlepi.com/local/361111_orcasplot30.html)

The FBI's criminal complaint against Mondragon said he told law
enforcement his action was "to protest the death of a whale named
Luna and the depletion of the rain forests." Media reports do not
indicate why he waited two years to avenge Luna.

Mondragon subsequently changed his plea to guilty to a misdemeanor
charge (See "Orca avenger to plead guilty", Associated Press, Aug.
12, 2008, http://www.seattlepi.com/local/374616_orca13.html), and was
released on probation.

On Aug. 4, 2010, Mondragon was formally charged with making a sexual
proposition to a minor. (See "Vashon eco-saboteur charged with
propositioning 13-year-old girl", Seattle Post-Intelligencer, Aug.
10, 2010, http://www.seattlepi.com/local/424796_Vashon09.html)

The charge relates to an incident on Aug. 26, 2009, when it is
alleged Mondragon, supposedly known for painting pictures of dead,
naked girls, asked a minor to perform oral sex on him. (See "Islander
charged with propositioning a minor", Vashon-Maury Island
Beachcomber, Aug. 16, 2010,
http://www.pnwlocalnews.com/vashon/vib/news/100385844.html)

Media reports do not indicate why it took a year for the charge to be
filed against Mondragon, which seems a long time given that a girl
who was either the one propositioned, or her companion, already knew
Mondragon personally.

Mondragon has already been ordered not to have contact with minors,
and is scheduled for arraignment on Aug. 18 on the charge of a gross
misdemeanor of "communication with a minor for immoral purposes". If
convicted, he could face up to a year in jail.

Not only that but it seems the self righteous dweeb has not moral compass despite his claims. Doesn't want to harm a whale or a tree but is willing to sully the life & reputation of 13 year old children. A real creep.
