USA - Negotiating with Terrorists

June 30 was a dark day for livestock, exotic animal owners, and dog
breeders in Ohio thanks to Gov. Ted Strickland, The Ohio Farm Bureau
and the Humane Society of the United States. The farm bureau is
supposed to protect the interest of the farmers. They handed poultry,
pork and beef farmers over to HSUS on a platter, along with the exotic
animal owners and dog breeders. Gov. Strickland and Jack Fisher of the
farm bureau have sold us out. I ask all Ohio Farm Bureau members to
not renew their membership until there is a change at the top. The
farm bureau needs leaders who have the interest of Ohio agriculture,
not HSUS or any other animal rights groups.

Ohio has laws in place to cover animal cruelty; we need law
enforcement to enforce the laws. Why would Gov. Strickland want to
have more job loss in Ohio by shutting down family farms and
professional breeders? The Ohio Farm Bureau should protect the farming
community, not kill it. Does it care hard-working Ohio farmers could
lose their homes? The farm bureau said this agreement was the best for
farmers. I don't see letting HSUS write Ohio's laws and dictate how we
handle our animals as a good course of action. Unlike what happened in
California, Ohio should never give in to the likes of HSUS, PETA and
the Animal Liberation Front.

We should think about all the rights that are taken from us by
government. Now they attack the backbone of America -- the farmer.
Strickland has lost my vote and probably the votes of a lot of farmers
and meat-eaters.

Strickland probably likes to sit down to a good steak dinner every now
and then. He should try living on the diet Wayne Pacelle would have
the rest of us eating.

I would encourage all readers who like freedom, meat, eggs and pet
dogs to call Strickland at (614) 466-3555 and the farm bureau (614)
249-2400 and let them know the people who gave them power can take it
away.

But what exactly happened? The article doesn't say.

From The Athens News:
"...the ballot initiative was a constitutional amendment that would have forced the Ohio Livestock Care Standards Board, which was was voted into creation by Ohioans last November, to enact changes. The agreement that was reached, however, only provides a number of recommendations to the board, which would have to approve any actual measures.

Some of these recommendations include a ban on veal crates by 2017; a ban on new gestation crates in the state after Dec. 2010, with existing facilities grandfathered but required to cease use of such crates within 15 years; a moratorium on permits for new battery cage confinement facilities for laying hens; a ban on strangulation of farm animals; mandatory humane euthanasia methods for sick or injured animals; a ban on the transport of downer cows for slaughter; enactment of legislation establishing felony-level penalties for cockfighters; and enactment of a ban on the acquisition of dangerous exotic animals..."

Wow, sounds pretty vague. "Dangerous and exotic animals."

Donkeys kill more people than airline crashes each year, and they come from the Old World. I suppose they'd qualify!

The inmates are running the assylum. I wish all these people would have to be responsible to produce a product while dealing with all the regulation that they put on hard working people.

November 2010 is when changes should be made!
