This ^^^* is why nobody likes you! LOL! Good job ! Coyote Clayton. My line was similar in West Texas . Ran bout 45000 acres over about 122 miles round trip. Some places where only 1 section. So were 10 or more sections. Lots of stops. Did 18 coyotes on my best run to New Mexico line. I DONT want to do that again ! It’s fun when you’re young. But those double digits days back to back get old !!

I like him. He has a pretty good sense of humor. Seems that a lot of folks don't have much of a sense of humor anymore. Guess I'll be on that famous list now! LOL!

Appreciate it brother. It’s hard work. Calving season where I’m at. I don’t take the bait so to speak. Only those that know long lining coyotes understand. For those that don’t, there are only so many coyotes in one area or pasture. To get numbers you have to cover a lot of ground. Or trap feedlots or dead piles.

Do you have any not interested in some sets or just nothing passed through? Some folks catch everything that walks by, I’m definitely not one of those guys, lol. I’m guessing you can see tracks pretty good out there.

Awesome job! I keep telling myself I want to run a line like that, then reality sets in for me. If you don’t mind, how much did you spend in gas on a daily basis? Been trying to think about logistics of it here

Yes. Depending on several factors in my experience. Pressure from humans, hunting seasons. Breeding season gets them hyper focused on other things. Lure or bait they scented repeatedly, they lose interest. Switching up baits and lures. Using cat gland, castor, dead rabbit, rabbit fur, feathers, bones etc. I advocate liberal use of good urine. Coyote and cat as a switch up. Curiosity, sex, and food drives their mind. In my experience.

I’ve run Toyota’s and full size trucks. Definitely better with the Toyota’s. Fill up every other day. 40 a day full size truck. Rarely go over 40 mph.
Posted By: steeltraps

Re: 96 mile trap line - 02/22/24 01:52 AM

My best wash when =‘Trump was in office. 1.60 gas. My Toyota 4 cy got 15 mph or so on trap line. 50 dollars a coyote bounty. Man could make OK money in West Texas then on bounty 2017. I went 44 days with 227 coyotes. So even at 40 dollar a day gas bill. A man could be OK. But now ???? Can pull it off

Re: 96 mile trap line - 02/22/24 12:01 PM

Chris you ain't kidding...a fur trapper struggles to just pull off paying for gas at the end of the day. Especially trappers stuck with a 24 hr check law. Now high dollar 'cats or an extensive taxidermy market helps but it is still difficult. Gotta love what you are doing.... that's for sure.

A couple of nice hauls. I give you props for running a long line in the current market.
Posted By: Coyote Clayton

Re: 96 mile trap line - 02/23/24 12:58 AM

15-20 in the truck. Stopped counting. Ranchers really appreciate the predator control when no one is chasing them.

Re: 96 mile trap line - 02/23/24 01:24 AM

Nice. I need to learn how to catch coyotes. I get 1 or 2 a year. Can't seem to figure it out. I try everything I read here. Something will eventually work, then watch out! LOL!

He’s whooping me with the dirt holes. He does dirt holes, I do flat sets. I load his coyotes and bring him the bait. He’s beating me by 10. 24 to 34. Caught that dog by the right front foot yesterday. He’s fine. Learning.

Thank you, Cletis. All my kids can trap coyotes and cats. This last kid appears to have talent. First time on a coyote long line for him. Think he’s doing alright.
