Long rat - 12/26/23 06:00 PM

What’s the largest / longest rat you’ve caught? I got one today that is 17-1/2” from nose to base of tail on the carcass. Letting it dry to skin tomorrow but it has to be the longest rat I’ve ever seen on my line…..

I'm not sure never measured one, but that looks like a dandy I'm sure that would go past xxx on my boards

This one stretched 3x. It's in a 330 [Linked Image]

I’ll let you guys know tomorrow what it stretched to. I was thinking I’d have to put it on a different board too, don’t think a rat one is going to be enough.

Those are some huge rats guys, nice!!

I remember that time frame well. I remember that in 79 and 80, one did not mind catching muskrats, even when they plugged up a mink set.
In 1980 I ran a multi species line for about 10 days before having to get back to work. If memory serves me correctly I believe in 1980 I managed 32 muskrats at $9.00 average, which I felt was real nice. 19 muskrats out of a small marsh and the rest from mink sets. Those helped with expenses for the land line.

Nice memories, Aye guys? But I got 18.00 for my top lot rats (caught here in NE) and averaged 14.05 for the 265 caught in the '16-'17 season (excluding 10 kits for 5.00 ea). Tell me those times with 1/2 of the prices will be back someday so society and the young guys can enjoy a little dollar value. O'Gorman says they won't. Many say ADC will be the future as long as the world is in the turmoil its in. Currently it is (ADC) how my "bread is buttered" in retirement now...........the mike.
