Pulling earth anchor

Be careful when pulling them earth anchor's that the little chain don't broke and you go backwards and hurt your shoulder.

How do I know ?.

I use my drill and auger to drill along side the chain and wallow out the bottom of the hole, then pull straight up using your legs not your back. This will help prevent what you went through.

Dig down with a shovel first. Then use a 5 foot bar with a hook attached or I use my winch on my UTV.

I only use them in the mud/under water for coon trapping, they're (usually) pretty easy to pull out. Everything on land gets rebar.

I auger wolf fangs and have very good luck pulling them easily. This is hit and miss with finned super stakes. I finally used a t-post puller and a short length of chain to pull the last 3. Worked slick

I use a long narrow shovel in the spring to retrieve mine. The drill and auger sounds like a good idea.

I use a 24" crow/pry bar and a little chunk of 4x4 scrap. Hook the pry bar under a j hook and roll it back over the 4x4. If needed, I just work on down the chain till it's loose enough to pull by hand.

I purely hated trap pull days when I used SuperStakes. Almost as bad as when I used double-staked rebar.

After many years of work with sore back and hands, I sold all those and began making cable Pogos. Now I just cut cable about 2" below surface. Don't mind pull days any longer.

2" fender washers, j-hooks or 20p nails, and cable has increased in price. It is cheaper now to buy WolfFangs, if you can find Fangs for less than $40/100.

I read enough of Steeltraps posts to give drags a try. Now the only place I’ll drive an anchor is “good dirt” for canines and felines, or ground soft enough I can push in and pull by hand for coons.
When pulling in good dirt a 20v Dewalt drill and auger can have them up in shorter time than it takes to get out of the truck and grab the drill. All “bad dirt” areas get drags which takes long enough to spring the set and wrap the chain.
Sounds crazy, but I’m sorta hoping I catch something that moves the drag more than 3ft this year. One coyote moved it about 3ft everything else just got wrapped up behind the set. Cats sorta keep you on your toes with a drag. Gotta figure out how much slack they got when trying to get the release pole around that neck!!

Probably got a better chance of a mountain lion wandering our way than a bear. Either would make the local news though, lol.

Had a sow and 2 cubs in Cook County and a big male in Tift County...all in past 2 or 3 years.

Y’all need to do a better job of killing those things to keep them from spreading, lol!! I care nothing about bears. Been invited on several North Ga hunts and passed on every one. They just don’t interest me for some reason. Pretty cool to watch them on videos, just never had a desire to shoot one. Definitely don’t want to trap them!!

One will eventually find those peanut piles...lol

I totally agree with you on the SuperStakes. Not a fan at all when trying to get them out of 2ft of frost. Don't have time in the spring to go retrieve them either. I have never had a Wolffang fail me. My pull days also consist of clip and go.

I like them. I have a prospecting pick I take when pulling stakes. A few whacks at the ground, then wrap the chain around the tip of the pick and up they come. Trying to get them out of rocky ground is not easy though
