I use the closed jaw and sometimes catch coon in them. Catch coyotes and cats too.

I would not use offset traps for coon. They have tapered feet.

If u really just want coons, Duke 1.5 with a extra swivel is tough to beat. MB 450 are great traps, I ran regular jaw, when trap snapped, there was a critter in it.

X3 you will have empty traps unless lucky enough to get hind leg catches up off the joint.

In my opinion there Is no need for a off set trap unless It's a legal thing.

Double spring traps have to be offset in Oklahoma. In my experience you will lose about 10% of coon caught in a MB450. I mainly target coyote/bobcat so the last few years I changed over to almost all MB550 and the coon loss is a little higher.

I trapped Oklahoma (offset required) this year. MB550 OS was the smallest trap and #4 Sleepy Creek OS Double longs the largest. Ran 10-15% loss in the largest and think one pulled out if a 550. I just don’t think the offset is that big of a deal but that is my sole experience with coons. We don’t have them around home.

However if buying them for catching coon I would likely get closed jaw. I do think mink and muskrat pull out of off set easily.

For that matter I have held otter in offsets on fox sets. I would choose closed jaw for them too.

I catch a fairly high number of Raccoon every year in my MB550's set for coyote. They are always sitting there waiting for me. I would have to double check but I think the MB450 and MB550 have the same offset. A solid pad catch will always be a solid pad catch. But overall, if your targeting raccoons a DP or ConiBox would be more worth while, unless the MB450 is all you have at your disposal.
