Otter trapping - 11/09/20 12:28 AM
Anyone have a good way to trap otter and avoid coon catches? I've caught a few otter of the years and they seem to be thick this year but need some help in avoiding the coon which are thick of course here in Iowa, thought about making some kind of float to get out in the water and away from the coon?
Narrow channels, 280 conibear, and a dive stick.

I'm yet to catch a coon in a 330 or 280 with a dive stick. One of the few sets to not catch coon over the years. Many many otter and beaver in such.

Most good otter sets would not catch many coon IMO:
- Beaver dam spillways, above and below.
- Stream pinch points.
- Diving sets in narrow stream channels.
- Old beaver (abandoned) lodges.
- Cross-over shortcuts between bends in a stream and toilets.
- Otter Pressure Set: At iced over beaver dams with a constant water flow over the dam place a
trap or two back under the ice. Enlarge the hole if necessary, to accommodate the traps. Then
block off the sides to the dam with sticks thus forcing the otter through the trap(
