New VA snare law changes. - 07/10/15 08:36 PM

What are your thoughts. Pretty excited abt the changes . Planning on setting a few yote snares this winter.. What is a good ONE piece yote lock that is also a breakaway. Or should i go the release ferrule route. Going to have to get newt to build me some to va specs. Thanks for any help.

Gregerson locks will tear out. Play with em and see if they work they way you want. If they dont please you, id go with the release ferrules over having to use a s-hook or j-hook bad(unless your foot snaring)

I agree there red. But you can work with that when building snare.

I like the gregerson lock except for the zipper sound. Do they work good on 1x19 cable?

When you have nearly 300 cam loc you can't use. There another. 285 lb breakaway gregerson are 300 +

They don't save a deer caught by the neck. With out you can hold a fox by the tail or paw.

My fox snares will not have deer stops. My understanding is after 12 inch height wise the requirements come in to play. Under 12 you don't need bad or deer stop.

Under 12 I can use my cam loc. How long will they keep 2 snaring laws?

BEK,
can you post the new regs? I didn't make it to the convention until Sunday morning, and by then almost everyone had packed up and gone home. I did get a few things that I needed, though.

There posted on there website.

. Snares set on land must have loops 12 inches or less in diameter with the bottom of the snare loop no more than 12 inches above ground level. Snares with the top of the snare loop set higher than 12 inches above ground level must include a single-piece lock that is not power-assisted, a cable stop that prevents the snare loop from closing smaller than 2½ inches in diameter, and a break-away device that has been tested to break or disassemble at no more than 285 pounds pull. Land snares may only be used with written permission of the landowner.
