600 ace won't start

600 ace won't start - 12/11/23 02:12 AM

Bought a 2010 wide track 600 ace last spring, he said he only used it once or twice a season which is why it had low hours. Siphoned all the gas out and put fresh in last spring. Put some heat in it before I started running it this winter. Ran great then last time I used it it was idling a little rough but otherwise ran fine. Tried to start it today but wouldn't fire up, put a space heater under it for over an hour but it still won't fire. I'm fairly new to these machines so not sure what the issue might be, anyone have any ideas or similar issues?

The only time I’ve had trouble starting mine is when I’ve had water in the fuel line somewhere. It would start in the garage fine but not outside below 10 degrees. It took 2 jugs of iso heet to cure the problem.

I pulled the run relay and brought it in for the night, will try again in the morning.

Does it turn over and just not start? I have same thing but a 2017. I do a lot of start and stopping and have gone through two starters. Also the batteries sometimes have a bad connection on the ground. I put star washers on my negative and made a double ground.

Yes turns over just wont fire up. Checked the battery and ground. The relay is a shot in the dark but a buddy of mine said it's happed to him a few times. It ran great till it dropped sub zero so i'm thinking maybe water in fuel.

Might need another shot of heat. I use it weekly, especially the morning after a long hot powder burning run. That stuff only last a few minutes before its burned through. I am no expert on the newfangle machines though.

Tarnish Sediment( not used much) has been loosened up and could be blocking the fuel lines...any in-fine filters ?

I believe you're supposed to use the yellow bottle of heet in 4 stroke engines.

I've had the in tank fuel filters clog up and cause that.

Put the relay back and tried it a few times, now the engine light comes on with 4 short beeps- engine fault see dealer.

Disconnect the battery and let it sit for an hour. Reconnect and try.

Check your battery voltage, they dont like to start or stay running if its below 12 volts. Also I would disconnect the fuel line and see if it is pumping fuel and what the fuel looks like. Contaminated fuel or clogged fuel filters are a common issue with them. There are some good writeups on dootalk about how to get to the in tank fuel filter and the screen behind the fuel pressure regulator that also gets clogged.

Usually when its a relay issue they dont turn over or they will sometimes and not other times. Check the connections for the relay its a common source of corrosion. Same with the ground cable connection on the chassis.

The ACE engines are amazing but they do suffer from fuel and electrical issues at times.

Do you have spark? I also seen the line in the tank rotted.

Had similar. Get booster cables and ground from the negative post to the running board. Positive cable not need to be connected. If starts then ground your problem.

I know you said you checked the ground but just in case try above unless you already checked that way.

This is why I don't buy computer controlled crap if there are any other options.

Sounds like you need to change the filter sock in the tank or the pump itself the filter sock is the most common problem with them when it comes to fuel issues especially if you are using heet there kinda a PIA to change out but can be done there is an inline filter that you will see when changing the sock make sure and change it at the same time at least on the newer models

friend had the same problem and as the second tank of gas went through with a little sputtering.....been running smooth since then
one of the good optiums of raising off the floor when in storage so any lightning strikes near-by dont fry the puters...it does not take much

At this point have you been able to get the engine started or just the lights and beeps you describe?
As mentioned is the battery fully charged and is the starter turning the engine over strongly?

Re: 600 ace won't start - 12/14/23 09:43 PM

Tried disconnecting the battery and waiting for an hour and also tried the jumpercable to the running board but no go. I don't think it's the filters or fuel pump because when I ran it two days before I have plenty of power and there was no bogging down or sputtering. Battery is good and the starter cranks just fine it just doesn't fire. After trying to start a couple times the engine light comes on with 4 short beats. Don't have time to mess with it anymore right now.

Try the relays in that case next time you have some time. Just swap them from your working sled if they look the same.

victor#0 call Craig Compeau 907-388-2541. He is good with helping trappers.
If you haven't solved the issue yet.

Do you mean that you have no spark?
If you mean that it just won't run/start, have you tested for spark?

Re: 600 ace won't start - 12/15/23 08:42 PM

I was wondering that same thing.

It sounds like a bum sensor in the system somewhere......if you have fuel and spark it should light........... unless some sensor is telling it not to

It’s a good thing that you’re not way out on the line with this type of problem. Flashing lights on the newer machines at 9 th and plumb aka 9 miles out and plumb out of sight isn’t good. Walking can be hazardous to your health here during conditions not conducive to walking that I have seen over the years trapping in the interior!

I ended up selling my 4 stroke SWT for a 570 Bearcat since walking wasn’t an option anymore! No orange lights flashing either anymore!.

Good Luck

I've always run Bravo's on my remote line and they've always gotten me home. I like what these 4 strokes can do but I don't trust them so I use them on my line that's closer to the village. I'll post an update once I figure out what's going on.

Re: 600 ace won't start - 02/03/24 07:14 PM

Yes, I pumped all the gas out of the tank which is something I should have done after I bought it last April. The guy told me it had sat a lot over the years, it seems that it had accumulated water in the tank. One of the sparkplugs was also fouled so replaced them. Put a whole bottle of the yellow HEET in the tank and filled it with fresh gas. Gave it a good run and it runs good, no more issues starting it. Also ordered some extra relays for both machines as I've heard those can be an issue with these ACEs.

One other issue I have seen that can cause running issue with that model is the screen on the fuel pump regulator becoming clogged. Here is a post about it with some pictures.

That sled should have a sock filter before the fuel pump, then the regulator screen and finally a small filter in the fuel outlet. Any time there is a fuel related issue I check these.

Good deal I have seen that too where gas/oil mix has been sitting too long. Gets almost slimy and slightly 'thick"

Glad you got it going
