It was Friday evening and my future brother in law said register to vote and use your registration as proof of your age. We were 17 and 18 and to vote in 1960 you had to be 21. Saturday morning September 17, 1960 we headed to the courthouse in down town Los Angeles with her mom and sister and my voters registration. We were just planning to get the license and get married later. The clerk asked me for proof of my age, like your voters registration, not birth certificate or anything else. She had her mom to verify her age. We had to get a notary to verify that was her mom. As we were finally leaving the courthouse a little man stepped out from under a stairwell and said I am a judge and do you want to get married. We looked at each other and agreed. So for $15.00 we were married and we both believe it was meant to be. How can you quit with a story like this one!
