Chainsaw chain question - 04/18/24 11:46 PM

So I bought two chainsaw chains online. One I was able to unravel and it is now round. The other is in a bowtie shape and I can't figure out how to get the twist out. It's the bottom chain in the picture below. Any suggestions?

Your only two choices are send it back or break it down and take the overlap out .

I don’t know how to get the twist out, but I always keep fumbling with it till it’s round. Lol

Do you know any lumberjacks they can flip it for you, or you could take it to the saw shop. I can do it but it’s hard to explain.

That one can’t be flipped , it’s made that way . Either a new guy or a funny guy.

Two bows or loops you can screw around and get right. I think one bow-tie maybe put together wrong prior to riveted?

Put together wrong. You have to break it and then put it back together right.

If you look at the top chain all drive links face in. on the bottom chain half the chain they face in on the top and bottom and half the chain faces in and half the chain faces out . I am pretty sure you have to break it. It is easily done you need a grinder or flat file and a couple hammers and a small punch.

You can't get the loop out of it. It was put together wrong. Take it to a saw shop and they can break it apart and put it back together right. If I had it here I could fix it in 5 minutes for you. You need a chain break to fix it

I was able to send a picture to the place I bought it from. They are sending a new one. They said it was assembled wrong and to just keep the bad one. Guess I'll send it to the island of misfit toys.

Very easy to fix using the master link. You got a free chain out of the deal.
