CV Joint Replacement Questions - 04/14/24 07:18 PM

Okay, I believe I need to change the CV joints in a 2008 Chevy Colorado. Boots aren't torn but when in 4 wheel I hear a clicking sound. When I back up and turn the steering get hard ridged.

So, do you think I have the right diagnoses for what I'm experiencing.

How hard is it to change the CV joints out?

Thank You.

Hold the wheel all the way to the left and drive slowly forward, do the same thing to the right, does it click when your doing that? If it only does it to the left you need a left one and likewise for the right.

That picture shows a typical "american made" vehicle, Ford and Chevy in particular. Half standard and half metric. That way you need two sets of tools. Surprised you don't need both Allen and Torx heads also. Otherwise it usually isn't a big deal. I haven't done them on a Colorado, but have done lots of them on fourwheelers, as well as a few on Toyotas and a Chevy 2500.

Thank you Guss & bearcat2 I really do appreciate your knowledge and sharing it. I plan to do the work myself in the next few weeks. I want to sell it so will fix or tell the interesting parties what is wrong and they can fix it.

Thank You all the help.

An hour or so job... IF you don't have rusted bolts you can't get loose. That should be your only real issue.
