Michigan Trapping Reg. Changes

Michigan Trapping Reg. Changes - 03/30/24 11:22 PM

I see in the Michigan Outdoor Newspaper that we now have to post warning signs if our traps are within 25 feet of a road or trail. Did the Mtpc know this was being pushed through? That is the most ridiculous law I have ever heard of. May as well box your traps up and put a free sign on them for the thieves. Thoughts?

I just read the same article and think it's ridiculous. Unfortunately, some of this has come from illegally set bodygrips killing hunting dogs. I know of 2 beagles and a pointer being killed in the last 2 seasons in my area. These fools are setting 280's in cat cubbies right on forest service roads (no trap tags). The DNR needs to enforce the laws on the books instead of creating new ones that are stupid and confusing

I question if that signage change was approved. I see where it was proposed but I don’t see where it was approved in the listing of the rule changes mentioned at the end of this attachment.

Michigan NRC March 2024

Hopefully it wasn’t an approved rule change. I also read elsewhere that the MDNR was opposed to the proposed signage rule.

I sure hope it was just a misprint. This state is not heading into a very good direction the last couple years.
