Illinois otter tags - 02/29/24 12:21 PM

Had 2 shipped in the mail and they came in a cardboard tube with plastic caps just long enough for the tags but holy cow you coulda fit a 100 tags in this tube. Tags are 5.50 each and I needed 2 so total was 11 bucks. Was curious to how much the shipping was on this tube (cause they used to come in a padded envelope but not sure what shipping cost) 5.50! Lol lol lol…. Only the state of Illinois is capable of this lol.

Is that for the CITES tag?

Ours come in a plain envelope delivered by speedee. No charge other than the general trapping license cost.

Yea mine came yesterday.it was 13.00 for 2 tags at walmart.11.00 for the tags plus 2.00 for processing fee.the tags are given to the states for free from the federal government. Iam not sure if Illinois is the only state that charges for them.but I know alot of states there free.

In Pa, you buy an otter license before the start of the season, $6.97. If you catch an otter in the one week season, ( with the allowed five traps ), you report your catch. The Game Commission then mails you your CITES tag, at no charge. I see where it cost them $5.15 to mail it.

Game Warden brings them to us. Or will meet us to tag.

They mailed me one last week. One tag in the tube. And don't forget to add $4 to the price for processing. So my bill for one otter tag was $9.50.

Yep it is a total rip off something that should be free . I also got 2 in the tubes lol , and the bobcat tag is a total joke caught 3 this year and didn’t even try and 6 last year but no tags it’s a money laundering scheme the way I see it

I've been trying to get a cites tag for my otter since mid Dec. You're supposed to call the game warden and he'll bring you one. Mine is retiring with a bad back. Called the HQs, lady wasn't sure what to do. She said they would mail me one. That was 2 weeks ago. Still don't have it. Guess I'll be learning how to tan otter if I can't get a cites tag to sell it. You're right, it's a total joke.

I looked at my tube and also cost 5.15 to mail it to me.guess I don't have a problem paying for postage but for the tags and processing fee is different. According to the president of Illinois trapping association the processing fee goes to a 2nd party not the state.
