Odd pack - 02/24/24 09:57 PM

I just found this it is similar to a trapper nelson but larger. Has a hole in the side with a flap

I figure it must be for collecting something. [Linked Image]

I'm thinking something from the signal corps in the army to lay out wire for field telephones.

It looks somewhat like the outer canvas, protective.cover for the 8 bird, WWII pigeon carriers used by paratroopers and others to carry homing pigeons. They had a similar hole sewn into them to remove the pigeons. If it is one, it should be designed to go over a flat, round wire cage. My friend Ralph Baker had two of them.

Another friend of mine, Marvin, was in the Pigeon Corp and tasked to take care of the War Heroes and foreign donated pigeons. I think he served in it to 1967.
