Broke and dying of throat cancer, President Ulysses S Grant spent his last days frantically writing his memoirs to save his family from financial ruin. He died three days after this photograph in 1885, and his family would in the following years $450,000 from what would become one of the most successful books of all time.

Cool pic for sure.

I have read he was broke too. Not sure I believe it, or maybe I just don’t have the same definition of broke.

Looked up to see what year he passed away, Wikipedia lists one of his accomplishments as working “radical republicans” to pass protection acts during reconstruction for African Americans, those darn radical republicans, who’d a thunk it?

Not sure where I fall anymore 330, been a registered republican most of my adult life but Mitch McConnell and many of his cronies do not reflect my values/beliefs, so maybe I would be considered a radical conservative?
