New Beagle. - 02/16/24 09:54 PM

Valentines Day my wife bought me a Beagle Pup. She is just weaned and AKC and Continental Club Registered, She is going to be the one I hunt when my old Gyp passes. My wife named her Valentine since she bought it on Valentines day. I drove down yesterday and picked her up. She was in Frankfort Indiana. Made it there and back in 91/2 hours. Now the pup (Val) and my wifes Great Dane are upstairs all of them in our bed. Dogs out cold and the wife is watching TV. As soon as it warms up I will get her out into the woods and thickets. Right now I am just trying to get her to answer to her name and commands. The rest of the critters (Dogs) have really taken her in. Nothing more fun than to watch a good dog circle a Rabbit. Sure bears jump shooting them at my age. Now I have all summer to get her trained. cool

Love to hear them run on a rabbit…each beagle with a different bark…no better music on a crisp fall day!

I used to raise and train AKC beagles…loved running them in packs at the field trials. When the rest of the pack over runs the track, I love a good check dog!

My old Gyp is having problems with her hips but when she was younger she never trashed and had a great cold nose. We will see how this one does. She certainly has some good Bloodlines.

If you had been further south and I knew I would have meet up and said high. That's about 3 hrs away. I would like to have a one again but don't spend enough time at home to run them.

You can’t talk up a beagle pup without posting pictures!

Best pup I ever raised was one I kept from one of the litters one of my females had. I had the whole litter out for a walk and took them to where I had just seen a rabbit. When we got to the spot, one of the pups took a sniff. He scratched the ground and took another sniff. He lifted his head and let out a bawl that you wouldn’t think a six week old pup could create. It sounded like he blew his balls out of his mouth! He’d never seen a rabbit in his life…good dogs aren’t trained, they’re born!!

I will ask my wife to use her phone and post them for me. I don't know how and do not have a mobile phone.
