That would be good. I guess we'll see if the hatter market is strong. It seems everyone was a beaver trapper this season so there should be plenty of hides. Is Malvern the first state sale in the beaver rich south?

I look forward to the results because they should give us southerners a chance to see what we are up against.

I always looked at Malvern sale to figure out what i had was worth. Mississippi will have theirs the third weekend in Feb like always, can bet be thousands of beavers out of the delta at it! Ton's of green hides. Which means tons of green otter's as well so you can get a glance at how that market is going as well.

Hopefully will get a good report but with beaver fever running throughout the trapping community there is no telling what to expect.

Are most of the beaver at this sale green?

Yes, they usually are. Hopefully otterdog will give us a report.

Re: Malvern Sale - 02/11/24 01:04 AM

Alright here it is. Get out and trap all the beaver you can. $30 Ave for green beaver is crazy but that is what it was. Some dried beaver sold for $40-$45.
Otters were about the same $40-$45
Bobcats were in the $60-$75 range.
Castor was around $20 or so.
Everything else about the same as it has been.
I did get $3.50 for dried coon instead of $2. LOL
A few skunks sold. I heard a couple in the $15 range.
Over all it was a good auction. Probably 10 buyers and all were buying.

Thanks for the update otterdog. That's great news!

Any notion how many beaver were on that sale? Big increase over last year's sale?

Re: Malvern Sale - 02/11/24 01:11 AM

It was an increase over last year but not as much as expected. I would say maybe a 30 percent increase maybe. Maybe a little higher.

Any mink in the sale?

Re: Malvern Sale - 02/11/24 02:23 AM

Very few. The big number mink guy forsook us for the Loanoke sale. LOLLLLL
I think they sold for $5 and less. Wasn’t much interest at all.

LOL. haven’t been able to go at it like I used to/want to and the lonoke one is 1/2 mile away haha.

Thanks for the update!

Re: Malvern Sale - 02/11/24 03:07 AM

I don’t blame you Blak Spot. I didn’t get to do near as much trapping as normal this year either. Highest prices I’ve ever gotten for beaver and had the fewest I’ve ever had. Lolll
Oh well that’s trapping.

Re: Malvern Sale - 02/11/24 03:23 AM

Thanks for the update otterdog. Wish I had as many beaver to catch as I did a few years ago when the green average was about 3 dollars. Like you said oh well that's trapping. Lol

Otterdog, any notion of actual numbers for the beaver? Thanks for the updates!
Posted By: otterdog

Re: Malvern Sale - 02/11/24 11:52 AM

No idea really. Just a notion would be less than 500.

Re: Malvern Sale - 02/11/24 12:54 PM

I think we’ll have 1000 beaver at United Trappers of Kentucky auction March 9. I’ll post results after the sale.

Thanks for posting Otterdog and TYIA KyT.

Re: Malvern Sale - 02/11/24 02:56 PM

That would be a good # kytrap. The ITA sale Glenns Ferry in January had 531 beaver. None of those numbers are going to bring prices down imho.

Re: Malvern Sale - 02/11/24 03:40 PM

Arkansas Trappers Association sale this Saturday should have plenty of beaver. I hope to be able to attend that one and I'll try to keep up with numbers. The local buyer I sell to said his been buying beaver at a good clip throughout the season.

Re: Malvern Sale - 02/11/24 04:09 PM

We had 630 last year and I just expect more. According to who all got out there. We’ve had very good weather this season.

Re: Malvern Sale - 02/11/24 05:00 PM

Wissmiss probably has a better memory than me (hopefully she chimes in) but if I recall correctly the OTC sales in Oregon, of which we had four a year, used to always have over a 1000 beaver per sale back in late 70's early 80's. Those sales took 3 days or even 4 to move all the fur that came in.

Re: Malvern Sale - 02/11/24 07:59 PM

Otterdog, on the dried beaver at the sale was the $40-45 you mentioned an average or tops for a few blankets?

Re: Malvern Sale - 02/12/24 01:05 AM

That was top prices. Ave price was mid thirties I believe.
