Black Raccoon - 02/07/24 10:39 PM
Caught one a cage trap today. How often do you trap or see them?
He's fully primed. I will skin this one to have tanned. Since southern coon aren't worth much otherwise.

That's pretty cool, my dad got a red raccoon hunting with dogs in the 60s, had it mounted, ended up get pretty beat up over the years I asked him about it a few years ago he said mice chewed it up and he got rid of it, dang shame it was cool

I have killed a lot of coons over 40 years and only caught 1 all black coon, silver tips on ears and silver rings on tail.
Leather was clear and bright, Got 25.00 cash put up that year average for 31 head count. 1983, before the ‘86 crash in the market.

I've trapped a lot of coon in the last 40 years and caught my one and only black one this year. Sold it on carcass for 21 bucks.
I catch black ones periodically, but dark ones are more common. Larger male was 19 pounds, small female only 10
Pounds. Male was caught in December, female was caught today.

Never get those fisher coon down here. Least I've never seen one. Seen a few albinos and a cinnamon or two but never a fisher.

I used to catch 1 black coon, out of about every 6 coons, at a friend's farm, 6.8 miles from here. My buyer had an order for black coons for taxidermy. He paid $10.00 more for black coons, than a normal colored coon of the same size.
My friend caught a cinnamon coon there, in one of my traps that he borrowed.
Friday, I saw two dead cinnamon coons, about 100' apart, on the road, next to a field that is turning into woods. I might ask about trapping there next season. I've never caught a cinnamon coon before. Diane was with me and asked me "Why is that coon so orangey?". She didn't see the other one.
