My little shouse went from 38,000 to 68,000 in one year. County assessed value. I'll sell it.

State and local can be as bad as the federal government. Can't win.

The democrats are talking about drastically raising property taxes, in some communities and then giving a tax credit for housing illegal aliens in your house.

Homeowner insurance in NC is going up 47.2%. Some coastal areas will see almost a 100% increase in premiums. Replacing a home is expensive. Materials are sky high, labor is tight, some electrical parts are nearly impossible to get.

Don’t know how municipalities appraise property, but the cost to replace a structure has increased dramatically.

Are you talking about the areas that get hit by hurricanes on what seams like a regular basis...?

I'm in Champaign County, Ohio not Illinois. We are very rural here. It's nice.

It's been proposed in California, New York City and Massachusetts.

SCOTUS told Texas no razor wire so I guess there will be more tax credits to have.

I know of at least 3 insurance companies here that quit covering buildings.

5th amendment,
"Nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation."

I don't see this being legal.

I see them doing a lot of things that aren't legal and nobody is stopping them so they will only get bolder. The beatings will continue until morale improves.....................

If they make the taxes high enough you can’t pay them and you either sell the property or it goes to a tax sale and the city can end up with it then for pennies on the dollar as no one can afford the taxes.

Re: Will enough people be taxed - 01/23/24 02:36 AM

Can't sell if there is no one buying. Also if the municipality doing the budget is sound in their management, big increases in value can result in lower mil rates so taxes don't go up as much as many would predict them to.

I just had two farms and two houses reassessed according to letters I received in the mail. I don't know how big of a hit it will be yet. Its probably due to inflation but not Democrats. We shot all them 5 years ago.

Re: Will enough people be taxed - 01/23/24 04:53 AM

Hurricane damage at the NC coast is not covered by homeowner insurance in 26 counties. A separate wind policy and a federal flood policy are also required to cover rising water and wind damage. Fire and theft are covered by HO, plus liability and some medical to others. Gets expensive. For 15 years I paid about $6000 per year and never filed a claim. My home was new and built to higher code requirements.

So, hurricanes are not the dominate factor. Materials, labor, lumber, hardware, demo, shingles, paint, etc have gone up substantially. Maybe the approved rate will not be as high as predicted.

Some areas have seen a 40-50% increase in property values in the last 24 months.

We ain’t in Kansas anymore.

Whatever the increase, landlords need to pass that right on to the voters.
