Redheads

The PG rated kind of Redheads.

Redhead are considered a parasitic nester and will lay their eggs in the nests of other diver ducks like Canvasbacks and Scaup. They will also build their own nests.

I guess, that explains the Bass Pro brand "Redhead"..

Building their own nest is quite common outside the pothole area of the prairies.
In the old days there was a limit on them just to appease the southern hunting zones of this nest building.
Their eggs are different colour and size than other ducks and hatch out a couple of days earlier, putting a strain on peeping eggs not hatched out. Brood counts had to be careful in id which was really hard in Cl 1-ducklings.
They are really hard on late nesting lesser scaup laying their eggs in their nest

No action shots but one of the finest mounts I own. Looks as good today as the day I got it back from the taxi. It is normally under glass but I took he cover off for the photo.

That mount is very well done.
