RIP - 01/20/24 03:00 AM
Dad passed today in Carson city Nevada at age 78 , his mind was good but his body just couldn't hang on anymore.
He wrecked a race car about 12 yrs ago and was given a ten percent chance of survival . He suffered from complications ever since and was in and out of the hospital several times over those yrs because of it . He was also suffering from the damaging affects of radiation ( throat cancer) in recent yrs .
My brother and I drove down to see him 2 weeks ago , he said then , that he was ready to go ....tired of fighting . I'm thankful we made the trip .
He was a paratrooper in the 82 airborne , LAPD in the 60's and 70's , sheriff deputy in Northern California in the 80's . He always wanted to drive a log truck and did so for a few yrs in the 90's before environmentalism shut most of that down . His dad ( my grandfather ) died in a logging accident in the early 70's . He lived in Nevada for the last 25 - 30 yrs where he had an excavation company, and was still driving a dump truck for a friend of his up until
About 9 months ago. He was also proud to be a member of the Choctaw nations
RIP Dad , you'll be missed

He brings new meaning to the phrase "Went out with his boots on". My day is coming when I will be in your shoes and I am not looking forward to it. 78 years isn't a bad run. Hang in there, better days will come.
Condolences to you and your family.

Sounds like a great man. Salt of the earth!

Condolences, AntiGov. I'll be praying for you. Losing your dad isn't an easy thing.
Very sorry for your loss. Sounds like he lived life to the fullest. How did he like the Deputy Sheriff job. Seems like it would be interesting working in Northern CA although probably not as exciting as the LAPD back in those days

AntiGov- Its one of those forks in the road that most of us don't get to avoid but I can see where your hard work ethic and tenacity come from. The world will be a smaller place without him. One of the unsung great ones. Remember the good times with him.
Sorry to hear that. My heartfelt condolences to you and your family.
Sorry for your loss, peace be with you,

Your dad must have been quite a character, driving race cars into his 60s when a guy is supposed to be "grown up" long before then. My condolences to you and your family.
