Some of you may have heard of these newly proposed Natural Asset Companies. NAC for short.
In my opinion these could turn out to be ( and may be intended to be) detrimental to outdoor oriented activities. Certainly they are directed against the use of natural resources by individuals and the nation.
Watch out for these things locally and statewide.

I guess it was never safe to put your head on a pillow and rest easy knowing your own countrymen weren't trying to fundamentally change your country while you slept. They never give up.

I know of one timber company that has stopped logging and licensed all their land for carbon credits.

Yes, I've had a keen eye on that stunt for some time now.

Excuses to "preserve" land abound . To keep everyone out, and usage .

That is being pushed out west here too, to keep out oil, hunting, tree harvesting, trapping, even water rights owned for generations by ranch and agricultural families, as well as ordinary citizen's owned water wells.

Big business, power and money are behind it all. As is always the case.

It is never about the "surface excuse" given, to imply they actually care about the land.

Plus, AR groups fronting" outfitters" leasing huge hunting concessions then not hunting them.
Or as one such Canadian concern noted, " we allow some hunting, we're just not very good at it", wink, wink

It looks like you guys have figured it out. This has been going on to some degree for about thirty years. But in the past groups like the Nature Conservancy and The Trust For Public Lands have had to raise funds from private donors.

This new proposal will allow them to raise money on the stock exchanges. Of course the goal is to buy up resources such as grazing rights, hunting concessions, mineral assets, water rights, etc.. They will then work out sweetheart deals with various governmental agencies who they are in bed with, and sell the rights to government a great profit, all at the taxpayers expense. Quite the scam.

These folks apparently have never learned of King Louis the 16th.

I’ve never heard of it working that way.

Maybe my wording was a bit off. Green Crow sold out all their timberland to Nuveen which has some wording on their website about more logs from less land but mostly, well here is something from their website,
"As global investors seek to transition portfolios to net zero by 2050 timberland investments could play a significant role. The strategy provides a natural climate solution to reduce carbon emissions by producing more timber on less land, reducing emissions through efficient operating practices and sequestering and storing carbon in soil and trees. Natural climate solutions are the lowest-cost scalable route to climate mitigation and according to the World Resources Institute can provide up to 30% of the emissions reductions needed by 2030." I believe Nuveen is the one selling carbon credits.

Green Crow is still supposed to be managing the land but they laid off most of their employees and all of their contractors.

As I'm getting older and trying to figure out how to keep the money coming in.... maybe somebody will see worldwide benefits to paying beaverpeeler not to trap beaver...a keystone species that if left alone will stop climate change in its tracks. NUVEEN! Whar are you?

Unfortunately, in the near future, there may be a great opportunity for trappers in Washington to be paid for relocating beaver. Then when they become a nuisance, be paid to trap them again. Of course, all at tax-payers expense.
