11 year old did it again.

11 year old did it again. - 01/13/24 12:41 AM

Wife sent me some short video clips of his 2 wrestling matches. 100% complete domination kids never had a chance. One win from pen one from forfeit. Both matches were very similar. Feeling out circling fast shoot double leg grab drive and lift slam to the mat fast transition for the pen

But the 2nd match the drive and slam went about 8" back from the shoot and ended up in the other ring so they had to start again. The next time he got much higher on his lift and when the poor boy he was wrestling hit the mat it was very hard and his head bounced so hard and violently I cringed. My son didn't realize the kid was hurt and was transiting for the pen when the ref got him stoped. His opponent rolled around holding his head tell the video cut.

Edit. I asked my wife if the boy was ok se said she thought so
She saw my son walk over and talk to him seeing if he was OK. And he never said anything to her so she figured he was just banged up a little. I was proud to hear my 11 year old thought to and was concerned enough to go check on the boy.

Maybe the boy will develop into a state champ someday!

It's possible his coach got his engineering degree paid for wrestling in college.

I think I'm going to also get the boys into a boxing and jujitsu gym so they are well rounded.

I assume your son is at a tournament. Good luck to him.

We're sitting this weekend's tournament out. I need the boys helping their old man deal with the cold snap.

It's over now he only got 2 matches he was hoping for at least 3. How have your boys been doing this season well I hope?

That’s good, a friend of mine said it was a sore day when his son could out wrestle him.

I'm close to looking up at my 13 year old now. He is lightning fast and intense when he goes. Lean and ripped will be built like my wife's dad and my grandpaw. Wea practicing with him a few weeks ago and my back popped like a zipper from the bottom to the top loud probably at least 7 times. He was like omg are you OK. Yes I was infact it felt glorious. My back had been needing popped for a good while.

I look forward to the day they can take me with little effort. Infact it's what I'm planning for. When they can box, wrestle and do jujitsu well they will know what they can do and be humble and have nothing to prove but Handel any situation they encounter if it's unavoidably

Thanks for asking. They're having good seasons.

I meant to tell you above. I would wait on the BJJ until they have wrestled for at least a few years. Going to their back in BJJ can sometimes screw up their wrestling. Judo is fine.

My 16 year old wrestles but does BJJ and Judo in the off-season. Both help his wrestling and his wrestling definitely helps his BJJ and Judo, but he's wrestled since he was five. Hates being on his back in BJJ.

I started my 10 year old in BJJ during off season when he was 8. Wrestled since he was five. BUT I've seen him get a bit confused early in the wrestling season.

Just some unsolicited wrestling dad advice.....

That's great. Can go far with aggression and strength at upper weights. He will demolish the gentle giants.

Good for your son. keep him motivated. It's a good idea to have him in other activities so they are more well rounded and do not get burnt out from the same sport all the time. I have followed my son for the last 25 years on his wrestling journey. it started when he was 6 and went all through high school then on to college. Now he is a teacher and the high school coach.

That was one of my concerns untill he has the fundamentals down and reflexive.

I was thinking boxing would be better first since they are so different?

I would just have them wrestle for a few years. Then I would find a good MMA gym that teaches BJJ and boxing/kickboxing.

They'll be fine in the meantime with just wrestling.

Just my opinion but I bet the wrestling coach would agree!

Wrestling may have a limited time frame since we homeschool. My 13 year old is to old for the place they are so he just practices with them. So I was thinking about getting him into something else competitive hands on and useful on the street. Let's be honest wrestling is great but once they take them down thay are just hugging them and not very useful on the street.

My wife did say she heard od a place that has older age wrestling but is not sure if they can join.

I found out today when the family met me to look at some pups my son received a metal from his last match for first in his class? I had no idea thought it was kind of cool. I guess if he places well I'm not sure how well he qualifies for other matches. I have no idea how it all works and it's hard to learn being over 100miles away a lot of the time. But it sounds like he is doing ok so far.

I din notice a nice purple and yellow bruise on his cheek figured it was from the match but he said nope it twas from him and his brother messing around. Who knows,! [Linked Image]

Here he is with his coach holding his award. He forgot to bring it today to show me .

Edit:. To Bragg on his coach just a bit. The man has a great way of explaining moves in a way the lights really come on for all the kids. He not only teaches the moves but the why and what to watch out for. I also like the way he explains things. Like place you hand here see how it fits perfectly that's how God made it!!
He is truly a blessing to have for our team.

If he keeps at the wrestling maybe he can go to Penn State! grin Great engineering school also.
