The power of coffee.

The power of coffee. - 01/11/24 05:44 PM

I visited my 96 year old mom yesterday in the old folks home. I'm pretty sure she will die soon, her batteries are running out very fast. She is transitioning to heaven very graciously.

When I got there, she could barely open her eyes. In a very weak whisper, she said several times, "I'm so sleepy."

Half jokingly, I asked her if she would like some coffee. She emphatically said, "I'd love some."
I went downstairs and got her a cup.
After a couple of gulps, it was almost as if a miracle had happened.

Maybe this elixir only works on old Swedes, but who knows.

She may be sleepy from medication.
You gotta watch those old age homes, often they medicate the residents to make their job easier.

Really made me smile Waggler, thanks for sharing that!

My Dad was in his 90s, and nearing the end.
Kept asking for a beer.

Nurse said, " it ain't going to hurt him, just pour it in a cup"
Me; " Be right back....".

waggler, this post so reminds me of my Mom. She passed just over a year ago. Whenever coffee was mentioned, all her problems seemed to fade away.
She always had a pot going, no matter what time of day it was.

My mother who also was 100% Swede used to routinely fail the health and hygiene morning questionnaire from her grade school teacher because one of the questions was if you had drank any coffee during the week. My mom, raised in a South Dakota Swedish community began drinking coffee before she was ten.

Re: The power of coffee. - 01/12/24 03:30 AM

Guys, thanks for the kind words about my mon. She is pretty special.

Here's something very special about her. Back when I was a teenager I would often get behind on my beaver put-up. I'd have an auction (SFX) date fast approaching, but still have a bunch of frozen beaver skins in the deep freezer (the same one we used for food).

She would let me line up as many beaver boards as necessary, in the carpeted living room. The fan would be blowing from start to finish. Never a word of complaint. She was and is so practical.
