Who was the fastest NFL player when you were a kid watching football ?

For me ...it was Bob Hayes

Now I wonder who the Beav will have ?

Bo Jackson, Darryl Green, Deion Sanders. Hershal Walker, Philip Epps, Tim Brown, Willie Gault.

Being a Steelers fan, I was into power runners, not fast ones.

I'm going to say Marcus Allen because he was not only fast but had good taste. He left the Raiders and played for the Chiefs.

A bit off topic, but watching Mike Singletary made me wonder how fast he was. Either he was mega fast or he read plays well because nobody got past him very often.

Rice had some serious gifts no doubt.

My favorite player was Walt Garrison for the Cowboys.

X2. He was the fastest ever. He won two Gold medals in track in the 1964 Olympics breaking then World records in both events.

He had football speed. Not a great 40 time though.

I remember the fastest being the Cowboy’s Bob Hayes. Certainly don’t recall any other backs winning an Olympic Gold Medal. Only other thing I remember about Cowboy running backs was a college player named DOR-set, got drafted, got the big head, and changed his name to dor-SETT.

Bob Hayes of the Cowboys is who I remember when in college. Also there is a difference between being quick and fast. Now days a lot of the quick, fast and strong is going into the wide outs. Running backs even though they create the pass option are struggling in the NFL to gain respect and salaries. Most of the playoff teams have good running games, at least several of the top 3-4.
