Excitement of the wrong kind

Excitement of the wrong kind - 01/07/24 09:32 PM

For the past couple weeks I had been having chest pains that I attributed to esophagus issues as it would come and go and I would have several days with no problems. Once when I just walked to the mailbox and back, I felt it again and thought it was something I just ate. New years day I was pretty sure it was heart issues as antacids did nothing nor did eating give me any relief. I was good again for 3 days with no issues until Thursday when it got so bad and continuous that I called my girlfriend to drive me into the emergency room. Before I called her I checked my blood pressure and it was 220 over 122 so I knew it was serious at that point.

Turned out the doctor said I was having a massive heart attack and long story short they placed 4 stents in my arteries and one of them was 99% blocked and the others to lesser degrees. I was able to go home yesterday (Sat) and am now taking it relatively easy at home with 6 new bottles of meds to take daily now. Lucky to be alive but not the kind of excitement I would have preferred.

This time of year I don't have traps out now and am good at taking it easy. I plan on being outside in the fresh air a lot, though and will hopefully see you at the convention on the 13th as I have furs to sell..

Not a problem. I am keeping the Ferrari in the garage and will be using the truck this time. Not enough room in the Ferrari. Thanks for the offer, though.

Re: Excitement of the wrong kind - 01/08/24 12:49 AM

Glad you’re pulling through.
Coworker was on a trouble call and said he was short on breath. On to the next call and decided to pull over. Left his truck on the side of the road and his call partner rushed him to the hospital about 10 minutes away. 8 hours later he’s got a quad bypass, 45 years old. He’s a health/workout freak. I’m sure steroids may have weakened some stuff. His kidneys shut down a few times after the successful surgery. Long road to recovery for him, but he’s doing ok.

I don't regularly visit doctors but have been the last year for different issues. I always had high blood pressure but never have done anything about it until now. No heart issues were noted.

Surprised the heck out of me as well since I bike and am outdoors all the time hunting, fishing, and trapping and juat walking. I eat a lot of venison, fish and chicken and there is no history of heart issues with my parents who lived to be 85 and 90 respectively. The only thing that I really think is responsible is all the other things that I eat. When I look at my pile on the checkout aisle in the grocery store, I see far to much stuff that tastes good like chips, cookies, brats, etc. I have come to the conclusion that if it tastes that good, then we should not be eating it. 77 years of junk food has a way of catching up to a person, I just found out.

Re: Excitement of the wrong kind - 01/08/24 04:40 AM

A simple blood test can tell the doc how much artery clogging junk is in your blood and a change of diet is in order.
Too much grease in your blood can lead to heart attack and stroke as you age.
If it is dangerously high the doc can prescribe lipitor temporarily to lower high blood fats until you can get your diet right.
I had to stop eating bacon and sausages every morning for breakfast since the doc told me at my last check up my blood fat was climbing.
Said I would be at risk for heart attack or stroke in the future unless a change in what and how much of certain foods I eat.

They have drawn so much blood out of me this past year and 6 years ago, that I am surprised that I had any left before this . 6 years ago for my TURP operation, all stages of my blood were on the optimal level, Blood sugar, cholesterol, fats, etc. MANY blood test were done then
Last year for PMR I am suffering they took at least 10 vails of blood for testing and never noted any heart issues that were lurking. Of course, when I went in a few days ago, the enzymes showed severe heat issues, so you tell me why issues were not brought to my attention when all those other tests were done.. Maybe because I was a perfect example of handsomeness and fitness that they had no need to look further..

Knew a secretary who found her boss monday morning lying on the floor with an empty bottle of Maalox next to him. Sometimes when your body yells at you it is best to pay attention. Glad you are OK.

I wonder what was blocking your arteries if it wasnt fats.

Re: Excitement of the wrong kind - 01/08/24 05:28 AM

I wish you a fast recovery, MnMan.

Ten years ago, a cardiologist discovered that three of my heart arteries were clogged 100 percent, one 90 percent, and the fifth 70 percent. I had to have open-heart quintuple bypass surgery. Took almost a year to recover.

Its not animal fats that are the problem. Its from high carbs/ sugar that get stored in arteries. Mostly from seed oils and high carb foods like potatoes, rice, grains, bread and other junk foods.

Animal fats are our natural diet, in fact meat, fish, fowl, protein and fat is the only food we eat that causes no inflammation. Its what we are meant to eat.

India has the highest vegetarian population and the highest diabetes of any country.

Change your diet and things will get better.
Good Luck MM

I got 2 stents about 10 years ago and 2, 3 years ago. The last time , I got pains and knew what it was , was at the deer hunt. The guys rushed me to the hospital. I go to a heart specialist , yearly . Amazing how quick they can put stents in, less than an hour. I watched them doing it on a monitor. Good luck with your recovery. old243
