Tried watching Yellowstone. Couldn't get into the sensationalized soap opera. Lonesome Dove is a classic. Hard to pull ones self away from it. Needs watched repeated times to get it all.

Lonesome Dove's been my favorite western for awhile. I've probably watched it 6-8 times. But rewatching Yellowstone for the 4th time I just don't know. I think I like it even better than Lonesome Dove.
Re: Poll: Yellowstone or Lonesome Dove? - 01/03/2412:39 PM
Watched one episode of Yellowstone, the first episode then commy kostner went off about Trump and i won't support him and his liberal views so never watched another episode and never will.
Insulting you would even compare that crap to Lonesome Dove, it's a classic.
Re: Poll: Yellowstone or Lonesome Dove? - 01/03/2401:44 PM
I've watched both (and can actually read you losers cannot apparently! )
Lonesome Dove is probably hands down the best western sage of all time. At least several of the characters and part of the plot are based on historical facts
To quote Savell Yellowstone is a western Sopranos re-hash.
Re: Poll: Yellowstone or Lonesome Dove? - 01/03/2402:10 PM
So, Lonesome Dove is a weekly show? I have watched a very little of Yellowstone but have never watched it long enough to have a like or dislike 5 or 10 minutes at one time. I know there are some from another site I visit, that won't miss it.
I watch so little TV I don't think I could get addicted to any show no matter how good it is.
Re: Poll: Yellowstone or Lonesome Dove? - 01/03/2403:07 PM
Read the book Lonesome Dove no TV then at least limited, watched 2 episodes of Yellowstone and it is an embarrassment to ranching or anyone that wears a cowboy hat. It should be banned just for the language and content.
Re: Poll: Yellowstone or Lonesome Dove? - 01/03/2403:32 PM
To me, the two shows are not even comparable.
One is all actors, based on old west era, the other, a full series of modern day western ranches, with a combo of actors, featuring real deal Montana working cowboys, who are also actors , and world class working Quarter horses , who's offspring are sought after and being shown across the country now. The real deal.
NO comparison.
The intertwined stories of Yellowstone are not apparent at all until one watches each series. There are actually many stories unfolding along the way. Each character has their story, revealed to the viewer in understanding them as the shows progress. For example, it is impossible to know why Beth is the way she is until more shows in series one and two are observed. Until then, she does indeed come across as a "crazy", impulsive, mean individual. Though brilliant in intelligence.
Anyone not seeing more than a few shows of Yellowstone, does not in the least have the ability to comment . They have not even reviewed the "document " fairly.
Yellowstone is based on the main story unfolding, a real life theme, of the plight of modern day ranches , fighting for their land from big business, predatory out of state corps, who hate everything the open country and its people love about America. This story has been happening in real life to this day .
Most of the cowboys in the series, are real life cowboy hands, horse trainers, and ranch owners. Working men. The horses are the real deal too. I see them and their foals trained and up for sale often , all show ring winners , trained by the best. The horses ridden in Tombstone are just well-trained lower grade, mostly, not real life performance horses. Except for a few of the ones John Wayne rode.
Tombstone is not even close to all this. While a good show, it is not comparable to Yellowstone at all.
Just like Tombstone, and all movies, and most books, really, there is a lot of fiction , but that's ok, and entertaining , regardless. There's not a thing wrong with fiction entwined with reality. Makes for an interesting show, sometimes marveling at the producers or book authors in their ability to mix both in such an interesting fashion.
The last season, however, needs to be finished. The producers have upset a lot of folks in not finishing what could be a wonderful finale . Lots of things are left loose that can be included to the story of the ranch being saved from out of state big business buyers. And those horses playing the part of saving it, just as John D. mentioned . The reason he invested millions in the team and buying Metallic Cat. A lot of good stuff that needs to be produced yet to end the series. I keep hoping they will do that.
Re: Poll: Yellowstone or Lonesome Dove? - 01/03/2406:20 PM
Lonesome Dove, hands down !! Yellowstone is chaos. Beth needs to be in an asylum, Teeter needs speech pathology, and Monica needs to go to the train station !
Rip and Lloyd are the only characters worth watching.....IMO
Re: Poll: Yellowstone or Lonesome Dove? - 01/03/2406:29 PM
I have watched both TV series. (And pretty much every western movie ever made) I've been a fan of Costner , Duvall and Jones. I've read Larry McMurty's books. Just as some of his books are as good, some of the movies aren't as enjoyable. That being said: I no longer watch Yellowstone. It's too much a western mafia soap opera and the plot is no longer believable. I prefer the prequels. Perhaps Lonesome Dove would have ended up like Yellowstone if it were longer. But that series was believable and left me wanting more. Yellowstone is too much.
Movies are an entirely different category than TV. Open Range and Unforgiven are two of very best of all time.

You do know the OP asked about Yellowstone and Lonesome Dove, right..? Not sure wherenTombstone came into the conversation, but yes, even Tombstone is better than Yellowstone. Lonesome Dove for the win regardless of how much the horses cost or whether they are owned by real cowboys

I like Yellowstone. Rip is awesome, I hope they continue it. I appreciate all the swearing, it makes it more realistic. I was more offended by the Rupaul Drag Show commercials the last time I watched Yellowstone, every third commercial break. Guess they don't know their audience.

You're right, I was meaning Lonesome Dove ! Tombstone got caught in my head somehow. Thank you for the correction. I meant LD.
Re: Poll: Yellowstone or Lonesome Dove? - 01/04/2402:21 AM
I don't watch either but I vote Lonesome Dove because I'm still cheesed off that Yellowstone is not about Yukon wolves terrorizing fat lazy American elk and coyotes.
Re: Poll: Yellowstone or Lonesome Dove? - 01/04/2404:38 PM
Lonesome Dove hands down , no contest. Have no use for the show yellowstone, every time they make shows about Montana it just seems to bring more hollyweirds and other lib scum like em because "it's so pretty there " So they just buy up places and politicians
Re: Poll: Yellowstone or Lonesome Dove? - 01/06/2412:55 AM
If I need to fall asleep I'll watch Yellowstone. I do a lot of channel surfing. I don't as much care about what's on as I do about what else is on. When I stumble onto Lonesome Dove, the clicker goes in the holster and I find myself deep into that movie as though I am in it, watching from the perimeter.
Re: Poll: Yellowstone or Lonesome Dove? - 01/06/2401:27 AM
I was enjoying Yellowstone until Costner put a booger on it. Haven’t watched an episode since. That might exclude me from the judging but I’m going with LD.

"My wife is in (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) where I sent her. She made good biscuits but her behavior was terrible." Ive never seen Yellowstone but I love Lonesome Dove
