Is $50 still a lot of money to you? - 12/14/23 06:04 PM

I don't think I saw a fifty dollar bill until I was married and It was probably on "Price is Right". I would have swam across a ice filled river for one 50 years ago. Now I give one to the neighbor kid for helping me around the place and he looks at me like "You got to be kidding me boomer".

Kids helping get $5. There are a number of really good lessons in that, more than what’s in a $50, I can tell you that.

it is a tank of gas or almost a tank of gas

two cases of beer and a sack of pork rinds

2 boxes of ammo or maybe one if you have expensive taste

1 brick of 22

unfortunately it is not a brick or primers any more and only one pound of powder.

Funny you should mention this. We were recently discussing the tooth fairy. I remember getting a few coins when I was a wee lad. One guy said his grandson got a $20 bill from mom and dad for a lost tooth.

I don't think of $50 as all that much, but still become outraged at spending $12 for a meal at a fast food restaurant. A lot of things I don't do any more because the prices have gone up so much. Not because I can't afford it, but because I refuse to pay the ridiculous prices. I have lived too long.

Yes any bill to me is a important endeavor earned.

But lets all be cognizant of todays worth of the dollar as well as others having a different view of importance in wealth !

Yesterday's rules of funding are not even a whisper in todays earnings !!

I still think 50.00 is alot of money even though it doesn't go as far as it used too.i pick up pennies and save my cha ge every week and put in a canister till full.we went to Culver's Tuesday night my grandsons basketball team had a share night.it was 38.00 for the 2 of us.we ordered extra to try and help the team raise money. There went my 50 I was trying to save.

Re: Is $50 still a lot of money to you? - 12/14/23 08:42 PM

$50 depends on what im doing with it but is still an amount that makes me pause and think about the purchase heck when I was in my 20s I never thought it likely I would make over 100,000 and if I did I would be rich. Well I sure don't feel rich. Maybe I need to make 200k to feel like that these days . Lol I sure don't know how family's are getting by with the prices of housing, vehicals, and living expenses today. Especially after all the job offers I have had from the "good paying" places around Louisville.

My neighbor runs his bobcat for me $50 is standard for a short job today. He would do it for less or free but he has expenses and his time I think it’s just fair payment. I will have him do a few jobs if needed. We do a lot of dog/chicken sitting for each other that’s just helping each other out no money is exchanged then.

Depends on what you're spending it on. Take trapping supplies 50 bucks don't get ya much maybe 1 3/4 traps. Then shipping so maybe 1 new trap.

I gotta laugh. I used to have a Ford F-150 with dual gas tanks. I'd go into a gas station and give the clerk a $100 bill. One gas station I did this at , there was a young guy behind the counter. He said to me he wanted to get a pickup but after working in the gas station and watching how much it cost to feed one , he no longer wanted to own a truck.

Reminds me of a time a few years or so ago when I went through a fast food drive thru. I had a lot of change in my pocket, so I paid part of the bill with it. A younger girl took the money. When she saw the fifty cent piece, she gave me a snide smile and said, "What is this?" She must have thought I was trying to pull a fast one on her. I told her it was good money. She had to check with her manager who OK'd it! All she could say after that was, "Huh!"

The other morning at the health club there was a nice new, shiny penny on the floor. Saw several young people look at it as they walked by it. None of them would pick it up. I finally did. I know, I'm old.
