Re: Yes or no deer - 11/20/23 09:47 PM

What do you consider young? What else do you have on camera. Based on camera he is either dead or 11.5
If he is the biggest on land you can hunt shoot him first chance...

I would have to pass it's not on my land and I don't have any tags.

I will tell you like I do my boys. If it something you will be happy with shoot it and be happy. Why be concerned what others think? It's not their deer only yours. You are the only one it needs to make happy.

Re: Yes or no deer - 11/21/23 02:37 AM

Pass , shoot a doe if you want venison to eat. Our rule is, if you have to question a buck, hold off.

That’s my opinion, everyone hunts for their own reasons.

I’ll let him go 1- if I know a youth hunter would be proud to kill him
2- if he’s young and not to his potential

Re: Yes or no deer - 11/21/23 02:41 AM

He’s an 8 and he’ll be an 8 if he’s never shot and die of old age. Kill him if you want him. We try and give every deer the benefit of doubt, 8’s just don’t get as long as 10’s, lol. We can shoot 10 does per person and I ain’t eating a buck anyways. That meat gets donated. Yearling does fill the freezer.

I always think it's a personal decision. I will say what's a nice buck in one region might not be in another region. Deer does have some mass so I'm guessing he isn't too young. Probably a pretty nice trophy for a lot of people.

Are you in need of meat?

Re: Yes or no deer - 11/21/23 05:34 PM

The holier-than-thou "meat hunters" just cant help but taking a cheap shot at anyone who posts a picture of a deer with antlers.

Re: Yes or no deer - 11/22/23 04:09 PM

I can’t see the antlers clearly. Might pass. I mostly shoot does. Might kill a buck every five years. Let the kids shoot them because they get a thrill. Almost no trophy deer where I hunt.
