Yeah, it's pretty much a polished turd from what I've seen.

It isn't even dark yet! Between the "pooh" and needles, be sure to watch where you step. If you get bored the skywalk is always entertaining to watch the zombies, just REALLY watch where you step in there!

Re: Working in Deluth - 08/22/23 11:19 PM

Went through there last month on my way to Canada pulling my boat. Fellas I was with decided to take a detour through the city to look for some food. Ended up being not the ideal place to tow a boat with a manual transmission truck. My little tacoma did not like those steep hills with a stop sign every 20 yards and heavy traffic. I thought my clutch was a goner.

Next time stop in Grand Marais at "My Sister's Place". It will be one of the best burgers you will ever have and lots of parking too.

I've had to travel to Grand Marais a time or two for work, why have you not made me aware of this establishment?

Re: Working in Deluth - 08/22/23 11:43 PM

You never asked! One Sister owns "Trail Center" about halfway up the Gunflint Trail and the other one own's the one in town. By far the best burgers I have ever had. They have some odd ones too with eggs and peanut butter on them but I was never that adventurous. As you are headed North out of town it is about 2 blocks past the stop light on the left across from Subway.

Being you are in Duluth now, there is a great little Bistro called "Club Saratoga". You may want to check that out too. Trust me! smile

Yep they keep the tourist areas nice but if you go drive around you will definitely see the turd! It's worse every time I'm there.

85? Where does the time go? I caught my first ever carp during the National that year in the harbor adjacent to the convention site.

Re: Working in Deluth - 08/23/23 12:14 AM

I've been there several times over the years fishing Walleye's on the St. Louis river. We used to Camp At Patisson state park. I also attended the national convention in the eighties. Still use a knife I bought there.

If you want some excitement head up the hill a couple blocks above 35 and go for a walk. I recommend packing if you spend much time in that town. Stay out of the skywalk, and away from the underside of the bridges and overpasses.

You just told him to avoid all the "fun" spots!

If I remember right there were anti's protesting at the gate During the national convention held there during the mid-eighties. Somebody else might remember better than I.

The one place I remember was the Jolly Fisherman was a big deal for a restaurant.

You are correct and there was a pile of them too.

Seems like it is impossible to drive north through that town without some sort of detour.
Be passing through again next month. I do enjoy seeing the big boats and the bridges.

So far, the only water I've seen was in the form of rain/drizzle. Maybe see the lake tomorrow.

I welcomed the drizzle today. I wish it were an inch of rain.
