Nevada fur sale - 02/25/23 05:38 PM

Any word on the fur sale in Fallon, Nevada? I know they won’t open bids until this evening. Just curious how much fur is there.

Fallon is usually the premier cat sale in the west. Used to take 3 days to get through all the fur that was brought in.

With gas prices the way they've been my guess is the harvest is waaaaay down. Maybe those that have wives holding down town jobs are still able to keep after it. grin

I’m reasonably certain that they cut it back to 1 day but that could have changed.

^^^Just messing with everybody. Pic is from an OTC sale a few years back. Still pretty good eye candy for those that pursue spots. grin

Nice average on the Bodcats! I do wonder how many hundred the harvest is down from two, three or four years ago? Are they in freezers or they still alive?

I have a cat that was skinned and froze in a vacuum bag I am going to try and sell in a couple days. Its a dandy. Gives me an idea what my low number ought to be.

I'm wondering what the % of out of state cats was. Particularly southwesterns.

I'm just surmising, but I looked at nearly every bunch of cats on the sale and I would be surprised if there were more than a handful from anywhere other than Nevada.

Only one group of 25 New Mexico's and 8 Colorado only. All the rest were Nevada cats. Can't believe kit fox brought a few cents more that coyotes. Absolutely, the best overall fur handling I have seen in over forty years of our sale.

I was fortunate enough to be part of the select group of folks that got to select best handle fur award. I asked various buyers about their opinion on the fur handling and they said the same thing. That the handling has improved greatly over the last few years and that it is the best sale to come and buy fur at and the sale from start to finish is well organized. Big thanks to Jim and his crew.

The number of Bobcats is down to a little less than half of 5-6 years ago. lots less trapper activity with almost all other species being worth next to nothing.
