Need to try and fish plate a break like that.

I see that cracking in about 25 minutes of use.

Most of your welds look farmer good. Probably better than mine. But anything with stress on it needs plated on at least 2 sides. Or all 4. But I'm just a farmer and a dinner.

Why not put plates that go beyond the break? Weld those in place, then stronger than when new?

Ask others have said, reinforce with some steel plates. I had almost the exact same thing and had to cut some plates and reinforce three of the four sides. My original repair which was in the same manner of yours did not last too long. Once I reinforced it it’s still going strong.

Don't have the picture because I was pretty tired by the time I finished and didn't think to take one but I did weld on a 1'x4"1/4" thick piece of andle to the under side. So it's basically cupping every thing.

It had been streached out some due to build pulled after breaking so the gap couldn't be closed more.
Anyhow weld sequence went.
Root pass with 6011
Wire wheeled
Hot pass with 6011 making sure to burn in both walls deep
Wire wheel again
Grind out slightly
Fill with 7018
Chip
Then a seven layer 7018 cap .

That along with the angel support going out about 8" either way from the weld should hold decently.... Most of the pressure should be getting ken on by that angle support. Was considering using some 1/2 cold told instead going on all four corners but thought it would look tacky......

Owner was acting like I welded a spider web back together so maybe ..

Thing is covered in old bubble gum welds so have a feeling I'll be seeing it again.
