Bear Bait Source - 07/14/22 01:28 PM

Wondering If anyone knows the source of the bear bait buying industry? There must be a giant company that supplies even some of the larger distributers? Any feedback is much appreciated! Thanks

Bakeries. We get a pickup load - literally - for about $30. Cakes, bread, pies, etc. but, we are on the very edge of bear baiting range

Around here folks used to buy 600lb drums of peanut butter for cheap. Like 50-100.

Re: Bear Bait Source - 07/16/22 01:39 PM

Hey everyone! Thanks for all the great feedback! I am still believing there is a higher up supplier that even the larger distributers are buying from. One very large distributer told me they get a list of over 200 products to pick from every year. I am looking to purchase over 20 semi loads and am looking for the source of the distribution.

I thought you wanted higher than retail source

I bought from Bob’s Bear Baits when I was in the UP. I believe he has a couple sites in Wisconsin.

Ok suppliers around here are farmers and dog hunters who feed the peanut butter to their dogs and livestock. I used to get it from ads placed on Craigslist.

You're likely not going to find who supplies to the retailers. Guys don't like giving up their sources to the competition.

Re: Bear Bait Source - 07/16/22 04:12 PM

I see most people missed the mark on your question.

It is quite an industry and extremely hard to break into. Most of the established bait dealers have contracts/agreements with suppliers. There are really a small number of suppliers who sell overages, waste, etc. to bear bait dealers and those dealers have things pretty well locked up. Most of the smaller mom and pop dealers are actually buying from the bigger dealers. If you are looking to get into the business, you'll probably have to buy out an existing dealer.
