Commercial turtle trapping has pretty much been eliminated in Wisconsin.

I used to be. But like Wisconsin Iowa has basically eliminated it.

I do snappers (only legal turtle here in NJ). Did not catch any this summer because the state did not issue my permit (they cashed my check in June). Seems my application sat on a desk in Trenton for months as that person was not working due to covid. Did get it in October so I can get a permit next year (skip a year and you are no longer allowed to catch turtles commercially).

They have also listed snappers, smooth soft shells [brownies] and spiney soft shells [greenies] on the cites list appendix lll. Meaning they are under the same rules as bobcats and otters, have to be tagged before export.
