Turkey Hunting North Texas

Turkey Hunting North Texas - 03/22/21 01:32 PM

I see the Texas Spring Rondezvous is in Childrees in April and that also happens to be spring turkey season.

Never turkey hunted anywhere in Texas but always looking to add another turkey destination. Any input on bird populations and access opportunities anywhere in the North Texas area would be appreciated.

I already spring turkey hunt KS & NE most years and would not mind adding a new destination for turkey and take in a trapping weekend while I am in that neck of the woods.

Closest public hunting unit w/ a turkey season is 4 counties east of childress. Hagerman NWR Nacona unit, it is only 800+ acres. Further east you go more public land and they are all covered w/ eastern Turkey. Couple of public lands w/ Rio's and a season on them West of I-35.

Well, it's about time to get started after them old longbeards around here QBD. I will open the season this weekend in Alabama, and will start here next weekend. I hunted South Texas several years ago for the Rio, but most land in Texas is private unless something has changed. And most of that has leased the hunting rights to one group or another. Good luck and hope we can catch up at the NTA Convention.
