Forgot my setters

Forgot my setters - 12/31/20 10:45 PM

What a nightmare yesterday I made room for baits and cubbies in the truck and took out my setting tools without thinking. With the setters it’s a quick few minutes without it was a clown show. Picture a old guy with poor hands and back trying to balance on a 5 gallon plastic lid slipping every way possible.

Never got my fingers pinched but did end up with a MJ stuck on my thigh somehow that took some doing to get off, good thing they are offset. LOL

Jerry, next time you are around Lee have him show ya how to set them Sterlings. No setter needed and old men or kids can do it easy peasy. With trap on ground and dog away, push levers down with hands and place knee on jaw toward you. Best I can explain it, lots easier to see it done. Lee showed us several years back when daughter was just a little squirt, she quit using the setters altogether after learning the method.

I understand, got a set of them one hand setters for Kylee and loved them enough to get a set for myself. Then Lee showed her (I watched too grin) and the setters got hung on the wall. They are handy for taking apart a Sterling to straiten up the frame after catching a tractor or similar creature though. wink

I carry a 10" x10" x 3/8 square of plywood in my trapping bag. Throw the plywood down, put the trap on top, compress the levers, open it up, hold it open with your knee and set it. Got tired of the trap pushing into the snow, or ground. works good for me.
