I have a pit boss 7 tray pellet smoker and a green mountain Daniel Boone. The pit boss is nice but the green mountain has been a good one. If I buy again I will get the pit boss grill, the smoker is nice but not really for grilling hotdogs and hamburgers.

Love mine. I think brisket does better in my old stand up electric smoker, but everything else is great. Did a 7 pound prime rib bout a month ago. Came out perfect

Are there special pellets for cooking with or do you use pellets for heating?

Reason I ask is I'd never cook with the pellets made here knowing what all they grind up to make them out of.

Ok, I googled it and see they make pellets for cooking.

I have a pit boss and a traeger . Both work great

Pit boss has more temp range and a thermometer in the hood , also less expensive

My vote

1 pitboss
2 traeger
3 gmg

They are pretty awesome. The pit boss doesn't use very much pellets when cooking. I dont think I could do with out one now.

My folks have a Traeger and love it. In fact we just finished supper at there house and had grilled steak and chicken kabobs. I like the idea of the constant heat and not worrying about the grease fires. I like there grill but wasn’t sure if it was worth the extra expense over the pit Boss grills

I love my Traeger. Last grill/smoker I will buy.

Another satisfied Traeger owner here.

We really like the versatility of the Traeger due to the temperature control, 165-425 degrees.

I would highly recommend purchasing the optional insulating blanket. It sure helps maintain a constant temperature which probably saves a few pellets too.

The only thing I haven’t liked cooked on the pellet smoker is steak. Other than that, they are the best thing since sliced cheese!

I've looked at them before, mainly for the smoker part.

Thanks for all the replies guys, sounds like I shouldn’t regret buying one of the pit boss grills and saving money over buying the treager.

Re: Pellet grills - 04/23/20 02:40 PM

I have a small tragger and hate it for steaks or other meats that need to be seared, it just does not produce enough heat or even heat and so go to my gas grill or charcoal for that. In cold temps its hard to keep the thing going it goes into a standby status so cold smoking does not work. I do like it for slow cooking briskets, ribs and pork shoulders though. I have had it for 4 years and no problems other than not being able to use low temps when its cold out.
