Sending green hides to get tanned? - 02/18/20 02:34 PM
Kids caught a couple coyotes that they want tanned. Where can I send green skinned and frozen hides to get tanned. Is there anywhere in ne ohio or nw pa that I can drive to instead of shipping if shipping is an issue?

I’d find a local trapper or fur buyer to put them up for you.

Or salt them for a couple of days, then shake off off the damp salt, then resalt for a couple more days. Then hang them up and let them air-dry for a couple of days, but don't let them get so dry they are stiff, when they are still pliable fold them up and mail them off to tannery such as Moyles in Heyburn Idaho.

Might check with Keith Daniels, Arlington Cape over in NW Ohio though I think he only takes dried hides
Not sure about salted.

A few years ago , I shipped a couple of skinned and frozen beaver hided to Foxx and Furs. I paid extra to have them fleshed. They came out great. I shipped on a Monday and they were fine.

Unless policy has changed, Arlington doesn't accept green skins. There are only a handful that do, and I can't think of one within a reasonable driving distance. Eastern PA is the closest I can think of. I'd either split and salt them, or ship 2 day to one of the tanneries that will take them. H&H and USA Foxx and Furs are the two places that come to mind. There are some smaller individual tanners that will take them also, but I don't remember names.

Well the first thing I would do Is find a place to send your fur. Then call them and ask them how to handle It.
